Writing Support 

Writing Support is a free service for NMC students that covers outlining, planning, structure, organization, editing, revising, and APA review for research papers and literature reviews. 

APA assistance and writing support services are available for graduate and undergraduate students. Students may submit their paper or references for review, or schedule a virtual or in-person meeting.

Undergraduate Program Coach

Marlin Schaich, Ph.D., earned a master’s and doctorate degree in English from the University of Kansas.  As a communications professor in the Arts & Sciences Division, he supports both students and faculty as a writing coach at Nebraska Methodist College.  He is the Coordinator for Writing Across the Curriculum at NMC, provides resources for writing tutors, and maintains the Writing Support and Resources in Brightspace useful to graduate and undergraduate students alike. 

Graduate Program Coaches

NMC offers writing coach services to our graduate doctoral and master's students. Coaches are more than proofreaders; they help with all stages of your writing process. They help with drafting: designing and developing a clear objective, organizing and presenting research in the literature review, considering expectations for methodology and findings, organizing discussion material, and presenting conclusions. The coach can also offer revision suggestions that focus on clarity of the message, appropriateness of the format or structure, or even improvement of aspects of paraphrasing and summarizing existing research. One of our coaches provides direct support for very specific questions and proofing you may need for your APA-related questions.

The coaches work as a team to support graduate writing student needs. You will work with one of the following coaches (alphabetical order):

Dr. Cynthia Senior earned a Baccalaureate degree in Dental Hygiene at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in 2005, a Master of Education from William Carey University in 2013, and a Doctorate in Health Administration in 2020. A native of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, she worked in private practice as a registered dental hygienist in Gulfport before joining UMMC School of Dentistry’s Department of Dental Hygiene as a full-time faculty member in 2013. She is an active member of the Mississippi Dental Hygienists’ Association and serves as treasurer. She volunteers at the Jackson Free Clinic and oversees dental hygiene students as they provide free preventative care to the community. She also serves as a clinical board examiner for the national testing agencies for dental hygiene licensure examinations. Dr. Senior works for the University of Mississippi Medical Center as the Director of Assessment and the Education QI Director.

Frankie Ward has an MS in physiology and biomechanics, an MA in English, and an MFA in creative nonfiction. He works as an adjunct instructor of English at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Nebraska Methodist College, College of Saint Mary, and as a writing center consultant at Metropolitan Community College. In addition, he is the Managing Editor for the internationally peer-reviewed Journal of Latino/Latin American Studies.  Frankie is excited to work with you and help you produce your best writing at the graduate level!
